What to Expect on a Guided Hunt with Gopher Ridge Farms

While each experience and itinerary is unique to the individual(s) joining us here at Gopher Ridge Farms, below is an example of a typical visit to the farm.  Each hunter will be offered a guide to themselves unless you request otherwise.  If you have a child/spouse/senior adult that you would like to be present for the harvest of his/her animal, then we can gladly accommodate in our plush Redneck Blinds or Amish built platform stands.

In addition, several of our blinds are stationed on the ground to ensure everyone can participate in the pursuit without fear of spooking the game.  We also have a variety of other options including ladder stands, lock on stands or spot and stalk among other options for hunting.

Your hunting experience will vary, depending on what day you book with us.

Arriving on Thursday after lunch:
  1. Meet your guide who will take your luggage, gear, etc. to your room and show you around the facilities including your accommodation, game room, etc.

  2.  After stowing your gear, the guide will walk through the aerial view of the farm and show you where you will be hunting that afternoon.  No one spends more time scouting the farm than myself and my brothers.  We will show you where we have been seeing animals, what to expect, etc.

  3. Around 1:30 p.m. you will be driven to the stand in a climate controlled quad cab.  You will be dropped off literally at the front door of your blind to minimize scent.  The animals are not afraid of the quad cab.

  4. While in the stand you will have the opportunity to see White-tail deer, Elk, Watusi, Rams, Red Stag and Black bucks.

  5. If you harvest an animal, please look at our page “After the hunt to learn more about how we handle the animal after the harvest.

  6. Evening meals kick off with drinks and H’orderves starting at dark thirty (30 minutes after dark). Some examples from past meals: venison bites wrapped in bacon and grilled, fresh wild turkey breast flash fried and served with honey/mayo, sausage balls with spicy mustard, spinach and artichoke dip.

  7. Dinner will quickly follow the H’orderves.  Some examples from past meals: Salad, Fried Chicken, crispy smashed red potatoes, thyme zucchini and homemade apple pie with ice cream; Grilled Steak with twice baked potatoes served with grilled asparagus and a triple chocolate cake.

  8. Our guests have several options for the evening:  we have a large game room comprised of 3-4 outdoor TV’s, poker table, pool table, darts and shuffleboard.  Other options include lounging around the outdoor firepit, curling up with a good book or retiring to your room early to settle in, watching some TV and getting ready for the next morning’s hunt.  One of our favorite things to do with clients is to spend and evening showcasing previous hunts on video, pictures of deer harvested or deer scene while scouting on the two big screen TVs inside the lodge.  Great way to get your heart pumping as you see all that Gopher Ridge has to offer.
  1. Wake Up to a continental breakfast comprised of coffee, orange juice, Danish/croissants and head to the stand around 30 minutes before day light (twilight).

  2. Most hunters will sit in the stand until (9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m) depending on the time of year.  If you find yourself lucky and catch the pre-rut or full rut, you may opt to remain in the stand as there is so much activity (chasing, sparing, etc.) going on you may not want to leave but that is 100% at the discretion of the client.

  3. Breakfast will be served typically around 10 a.m. and consist of a truly southern spread: French toasts or pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits and fresh fruit along with coffee, tea, orange juice, milk and soft drinks.

  4. Break Until 1p.m.
